| Cabinet Appoints Jones-Bot Ambassador to US | |
THE HAGUE, 03/06/08 - The cabinet has backed the appointment of Renee Jones-Bos as ambassador to the US. The government has also appointed ambassadors to Switzerland and Sudan. Jones-Bos is currently Director-General of Regional Policy and Consular Affairs at the foreign ministry. Earlier, she held various domestic and foreign posts including that of the Netherlands' Human Rights Ambassador. Jones-Bos' appointment had already been leaked. In Washington, she will succeed Christiaan Kroner, who insiders say had to leave following a row about the management of the embassy. Norbert Braakhuis will be ambassador in Khartoum, Sudan. He is currently ambassador in Yaounde, Cameroon. Peter Schonherr, currently ambassador in Kigali, Rwanda, will be ambassador in Bern, Switzerland. Initially, this post was assigned to former Lower House Speaker Frans Weisglas, but he withdrew. The host countries have to approve these appointments before they become definitive. |
