Rwanda: Amavubi Stars Off to Casablanca

RWANDA's Amavubi Stars depart for Casablanca today ahead of their 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifier against Morocco on Saturday.

The 30-man delegation departs at 11.30 am aboard Kenya Airways stopping at Nairobi then go through Amsterdam before arriving in Casablanca tomorrow afternoon.

Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa, who is also the head of the Rwandan delegation, confirmed the development yesterday, however, he could not readily discuss the names.

Kalisa further noted that the mood within the Amavubi Stars camp is at it's highest in years and that after three wins in a row, the players are raring to go and do an historic double over Morocco.

"We all expect a tough game but that will not distract our players from displaying their impressive football they've played in the last three matches.

"We know what it costs to win away from home and everything has been done to ensure that Rwanda comes away from Morocco won a good result, which will further enhance our chances of qualifying to the next round," Kalisa said.

To ensure a better team services in Casablanca, Ferwafa spokesman Jean Butoyi traveled yesterday as an advance party to prepare the ground for the Rwandan delegation arrival.

Meanwhile, Ferwafa boss Brig. Gen. John Bosco Kazura is confidence about Amavubi's chances of maintaining their unbeaten start to the campaign.

"The team has prepared well enough for this game and I have no doubt in the players' ability to battle the Moroccan for maximum points in their own backyard," Kazura noted.

A win for Rwanda in Casablanca will definitely take them to the third and final qualifying round for 2010 World/Africa Cup finals.

Rwanda leads group eight with nine points, three points ahead of Atlas Lions of Morocco.

Ethiopia who will settle scores with Mauritania on Sunday has three points while the Mourabitounes remains at the foot of the group's standings with no point.
