Rwanda: World Bank Envoy in Kigali to Review Progress

The new Worlds Bank Senior Vice President, Development Economics and Chief economist Dr. Justin Yifu Lin is due in Rwanda for a working trip in which he is scheduled to engage government and donor community, the Country office said Wednesday.
He is planned to pay a courtesy call on President Paul Kagame on Friday, meet the Finance and Agriculture Ministers - who largely deal with the Bank. A large portion of its annual allocations go into budget support. Agriculture ministry also handles a considerable amount of the Bank's funding.

Dr. Yifu will spend Thursday in the Eastern Province seeing first hand radical terracing and marshlands development sites in Kirehe district has improved production.

In the evening, he will speak at a business dinner organized by the Private Sector. The Banks private sector support arm - the IFC - has numerous projects aimed at improving the business environment in Rwanda.
The senior Bank official will also hold discussions with Rwanda's development partners. The World Bank is the largest single source of funding for government.
The current portfolio includes 13 active national projects as of April, 2008, which covering HIV/Aids, Agriculture, infrastructure and sanitation with a total commitment of some $368 million. Last year, government got about $70 million to fund its budget.
