The competition organised in two phases first identifies the best coffee farmers in what is called coffee cupping. The second phase identifies the best coffee washing stations that compete for the cup of excellence.

For the first time to be organised in Rwanda in particular and Africa in general, the competition will attract both local and international coffee lovers as well as judges from 94 factories.

To ensure transparency, the national jury comprises of 4-5 judges, 6 from America, 5 from Europe, 1 from Taiwan and from Japan. The judges have been nominated in collaboration with Alliance cup of Excellence International.

Kanyankore said that Rwanda's aim is to promote the Rwandan coffee since it is one of the economic backbones of the country and liked on the international market.
