World Bank spends US$ 45 million on DR Congo schools

Kinshasa, DR Congo - The Congolese Minister of Primary, Secondary and Professional Education (EPSP), Maker Mwangu Famba Tuesday launched an emergency project on social and urban rehabilitation (PURUS), financed by the World Bank.

Education sector will gulp US$ 45 million, for the running of primary, secondary and professional schools.

According to Maker, in an interaction with the managers of the schools, the fund will contribute in improving the quality of education and reduce the responsibility of parents.

The payment will be in five stages of three months for 26,248 schools, made up of 18,322 primary schools and 7,926 secondary schools, to ensure transparency in the management of the fund, he explained.

Last week, the Congolese Minister of Finance, Mr. Athanase Matenda Kielu examined, with the Vice President and head of service, Mr. Jeffrey Gutman, the ways to improve the intervention of the World Bank in the country.

The project, with focus on Kinshasa, the capital, aims at correcting lapses in order to consolidate the post-electoral achievements.

It follows other ones such as the emergency project on the process of economic and social reunification (PURPRES) and the emergency project of support on improvement on living conditions(PUAACV), that are implemented in the eastern part of the country.
