Kenya, Congo clinch air transport deal
Congolese Transport Minister and Kenya's Ambassador to Congo witnessed the signing of the accord, which falls under the implementation of the International Convention on Civil Aviation signed in Chicago, U.S., in December 1944.
The agreement also falls within the framework of the desire expressed by the governments of Congo and Kenya to support the development of the air transport sector.
"The signing of this agreement between our two countries means that the conditions are met for Congo to open up to the world," the Congolese Minister said.
"The Kenyan government is very much involved in the development of good relations with Congo. Today's action is an important stage in the cooperation between our two states which should collaborate further for their respective interests," the Kenyan diplomat noted.
Under the accord, Brazzaville and Nairobi agreed that designated airlines, Nouvel Air Congo for Congo and Kenyan Airways for Kenya, will use third, fourth and fifth freedom right authorised services between the two countries with three weekly flights and unlimited capacity modules they wish to operate.
The operating programmes of these two airlines and tickets on the Brazzaville-Nairobi routes will be submitted for the approval of the relevant aviation authorities.
The two sides still have to sign trade arrangements to develop and facilitate the traffic between the two countries, whose citizens had so far had to transit through other countries to link the two capitals.
