The Boeing 737-800 prepares to leave Seattle, USA, for its maiden trip to Nairobi.
August 13, 2008:
After months of waiting, Kenya Airways last night received a replacement for its Boeing 737-800 plane that crashed a year ago in the Cameroonian city of Douala.

The plane is expected to give the airline room to strengthen its operations on regional routes that have been the mainstay of growth in the past five years.

It is also expected to help the national flag carrier renew its expansion strategy that came to an abrupt stop with the crash. The expansion drive is expected to resume with the introduction of scheduled flights to the Antananarivo later this year. The airline also plans to increase the number of flights to Angola before the end of the year.

Kenya Airways says the new plane will be mainly deployed on African routes where demand has been steadily growing.
