Aug. 20 (Bloomberg) -- South Africa's ruling party dismissed speculation that an early national election will be called to oust President Thabo Mbeki, Business Day said, citing African National Congress Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe.
There had been a proposal within the party for the ballot to take place as early as next February, the Johannesburg-based newspaper reported. The suggestion, made by the ANC Youth League and a national working committee, was ``not going to happen,'' the newspaper cited Mantashe as saying.
