Fr. Chrisantus Ndaga, a priest of Mahenge Diocese in Tanzania, is the new head of communications for the 10-nation Association of Member Episcopal Conferences of Eastern Africa (AMECEA).

Until his appointment, Fr Ndaga was secretary general of the Diocese of Mahenge. He will be based at the AMECEA secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya.

Fr Ndaga was appointed at the 16th AMECEA Plenary Assembly in Lusaka Zambia last month. He replaces Fr. Moses Hamungole who has been in office since 2002 and will leave at the end of the month.

At the plenary in Lusaka, AMECEA bishops highlighted the need to improve communication in the church by ensuring that information reached people in parishes and the Small Christian Communities.

The AMECEA Communications Department is seeking funds to revive its newsletter that has been out of circulation for some time and to produce a communications policy.

The outgoing communications chief, Fr Hamungole, appealed to donors to fund the activities of the department, especially in view of the fact the cost of living has gone up dramatically in Kenya in the aftermath of the post-election chaos.
