Wedding guests killed in Rwanda bus crash

RWANDA - Twelve wedding guests were killed in northern Rwanda when a speeding minibus carrying them toppled over, the state-run radio reported yesterday.

The accident occurred on Saturday in the northern district of Gakenke, Radio Rwanda said, quoting the police.

Nine people died on the spot and three succumbed to their injuries later. Nine others are in serious conditions.

The minibus had a capacity of 18 passengers, police said.

Despite its hilly terrain, roads in Rwanda are better maintained than in neighbouring Uganda and Tanzania and the number of road fatalities are fewer by comparison.
