Even when a judge agrees that the police lied under oath, blacks in Toronto, Canada are convicted for crimes they didnot commit. The judge ruled the officers used excessive force, but it didn't affect the outcome. Ahmed was sentenced to 75 days in jail while Betty received 30 days house arrest.

Check out this report in the City News in Toronto

Judge Agrees Police Lied In Taser Traffic Stop But Convicts Two Accused Anyway

Two men arrested in a controversial confrontation with police have been convicted despite a judge's ruling that all the arresting officers lied in court.

Omar Betty and his friend were pulled over in the Entertainment District and ordered out of their vehicle. Irshad Ahmed was tasered during the incident and dragged from his car. Part of the confrontation was recorded on an attorney's voicemail when Ahmed used his cell phone to call his lawyer.

In the jumble of confusing noise, the men can be heard protesting they've done nothing wrong, while police officers sound increasingly agitated because they took too long to follow their orders.

"Get out of the f****ing car," one says repeatedly.

"Sir, I'm coming out, sir. I'm coming out sir. Can you relax, can you relax?" Ahmed replies.

But the officer continues to swear at the man, as Ahmed tells him, "I'm opening the door."

That's followed by a loud scream as he receives the paralyzing electric shock.

"Get on the ground now or I'll let the dog in!" a second officer is heard warning him.

The judge ruled the officers used excessive force, but it didn't affect the outcome. Ahmed was sentenced to 75 days in jail while Betty received 30 days house arrest. But Crown attorney Meghan Scott doesn't think the tape tells the whole story.

"There's not two sets of rules for who lies in court," she notes. "The officers were found to have been untruthful in that one instance, and his honour, who was in charge of deciding what happened, found them to be otherwise honest and truthful. He also found the circumstances in which they lied to be ones that were fraught with tension after a very long and difficult involvement with the accused."
