Democratic Republic of Congo has closed Bunagana, her border post with Uganda  after Congolese rebel forces led by Gen. Laurent Nkunda captured immigration officials last week. Hundreds of trucks and passengers service vehicles are piling up on the Ugandan side of the border, as uncertainty looms, witnesses said yesterday.

DRC and Gen. Nkunda forces were on Monday till Tuesday last week involved in fierce gun fights, some 10-15km from the border point with Kisoro District.

"It is not Uganda that closed the border. When the clashes happened the immigration officers deployed by Kinshasa, were arrested by the rebels, detained, released and they fled to Uganda," UPDF 2nd Division spokesman, Capt. Kiconco Tabaro said.

Daily Monitor could not get DRC government for a comment but sources suspect Kinshasa closed the border point after their staff were arrested by rebels and to deny acquisition of food supplies from Ugandan traders in Kisoro.
