THE Arua-Koboko-Oraba road is to be tarmacked, the Uganda National Roads Authority spokesman, Dan Alinange, has said.

Alinange said the road links Uganda to the DR Congo and is frequently used by people on the Uganda-DR Congo border and residents of South Sudan.

Financial bids for the road will be opened today.

The consultant is also expected to do the feasibility study and detailed design of the 90km road. The study is funded by the World Bank.

This year, the road will undergo routine maintenance, while full re-gravelling will start in December. In March 2009, the road will be upgraded to bitumen.

This road is the first to be jointly developed after signing of a memorandum on August 26 to develop transport infrastructure linking the two countries.

A Joint Ministerial Transport Commission was set up to implement the memorandum.
