Careers in Africa:
As an indication of optimism in the market,
leading companies like Ecobank, Halliburton,
and Total will be congregating in London
to secure talented professionals for
their operations across Africa
at the Careers in Africa Recruitment
Summit from 30 October to 1 November.
This will be the second edition of the Summit
this year following a very successful
event in May. Kabeho Solo, Chief Human Resources
Officer at National Microfinance Bank
of Tanzania says "This event continues to be
a source of high caliber talent
from diverse backgrounds."
With more than 10,000 initial applications from
candidates the Summit continues to be
the largest recruitment event
for Africa worldwide. Companies such as Aggreko,
Bolloré, Etisalat, Lafarge, Millicom,
SAFAL Group, Skye Bank and Weatherford
are among those seeking to shore up
their workforces with experienced
professionals possessing international experience.
As the global economy shows signs of strain,
Africans working in the Diaspora are displaying
their inclination to go back home and develop
their careers in a region still experiencing growth.
Those who have returned offer
much encouragement.
Megandran Naidoo, a South African Banker is
one such professional. After spending several years
in London, he is now working for
Absa Africa in Johannesburg. "The opportunities
offered at the Summits are of
immense value to people like myself!"
Rupert Adcock, Managing Director at
Global Career Company (GCC) believes that
the renewed demand from companies
seeking to recruit internationally-oriented
African professionals is a sign
of the times. "GCC is utilized by leading
employers in Africa to tap into
the exceptional talent pool that
is resident overseas. Career opportunities are
steadily increasing across the region
as companies recruit ahead of the curve.
Africans are considering moving home
more than ever to further their careers
and contribute to their local economies".
