Esteban Lazo receives vice president of Tanzania

ESTEBAN Lazo Hernández, vice president of the Council of State and member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, on Thursday received Dr. Alí Mohammed Sheik, vice president of the United Republic of Tanzania, who is making an official visit to our country, accompanied by a large delegation.

Both sides reaffirmed the historic relations between Cuba and Tanzania and discussed possibilities for increasing those links. The delegations reviewed national and international issues, including higher fuel and food prices on a world scale.

The Tanzanian vice president emphasized the ties of friendship and camaraderie between the two countries, initiated by Fidel Castro and Julius Nyerere, and asked for his greetings to be passed on to the leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Others participating in the meeting were professors David Mwakusa and Jumane Magnembe, the ministers of health and education, respectively, and other officials and members of Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania.

On the Cuban side, those present included Fernando Remírez de Estenoz, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party; Marcos Rodríguez and Yilliam Jiménez, deputy foreign ministers; Ramón Ripoll, deputy minister of MINVEC; and others.
