Investigations into the recent attack on the Rwanda Embassy in London will be carried out with an 'open mind' without targeting any particular group, British police say.

In May, London Police were called to the scene by an embassy staff member who lives in the building and noticed petrol fumes. The Rwandan envoy there blamed exiled opposition saying the 'attack could be part of an ongoing campaign by exiled Rwandan Hutus'.

"This is unacceptable - it shows Rwanda's enemies are still at large," Ambassador Claver Gatete told the BBC. "These are the perpetrators of genocide; these are the people who do not want these defendants to be extradited to Rwanda."

At the time of the fire, the extradition case against four Rwandans accused of Genocide was progressing. The judge forwarded the ruling to the British Home Office recommending the men should be handed to Rwanda.

A new group of calling itself Action Group for Peace and Justice in Rwanda (AGPJR) protested to British authorities arguing that the declarations are misleading as they are pointing to the police which group they should investigate and restrict their scope of investigation.

In a May 30 letter to the group, the commander of Westminster North operational unit of the Metropolitan Police said the investigation on the fire was being "dealt professionally with open mind". The probe is apparently still ongoing.

The Metropolitan Police says the investigating officer will investigate the facts as presented by witnesses, the CCTV footage gathered and the forensic evidence obtained from the scene.
