Another Rwandan peacekeeping officer in the troubled Sudanese western region of Darfur died last week. This was revealed Monday by the spokesman of the Rwanda Defence Forces, Maj. Jill Rutaremara.

In a statement issued by Rutaremara, Cpl Jean-Marie Vianney Nsengiyumva died on June 10, in Khartoum, Sudan, after a short illness.

Until his death, Cpl Nsengiyunva was a member of 35th Battalion deployed in Sector North (Darfur) under the United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

The statement revealed that the RDF Headquarters last week sent a message of condolences to the bereaved family.

Rutaremara added that the late Nsengiyumva joined the army on May 12, 1995. He is survived by a widow and two children. Burial arrangements are underway and the body is expected in the country soon.

Nsengiyunva is expected to be buried at Kanombe Military cemetery.

Nsengiyumva is the second RDF peacekeeper to die since the formation of UN-AU hybrid joint peacekeeping force, and the eleventh RDF peacekeeper to die in the war-torn Darfur since the troops were deployed there in August, 2004.
