Congo flag raised at City Hall

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The flag of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was raised before City Hall on Saturday.This marks the first time the flag has flown in Syracuse.

Congolese from around the city gathered for the event, which included singing and dancing, as well as numerous speakers addressing the current state of the African country. The festival culminated in a proclamation, read by Mayor Driscoll, declaring August 16th Congolese Day in Syracuse.

The flag of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was raised before City Hall on Saturday.This marks the first time the flag has flown in Syracuse.
"All the people who come here are coming from different communities in Africa, and also African-American communities, and we also have members of churches and refugee services, and this means diversity to us," said Cytrien Mihigo, Organizer.


There are 130 Congolese currently living in Syracuse.
