August 13, 2008:
The Kenyan Government has over the past week come out to assure landlocked countries in the region that the country's infrastructure offers an efficient link to the rest of the world.

On Monday, President Mwai Kibaki announced a raft of measures aimed at ensuring faster movement of goods across the route including making the port, other points of entry and the KRA into 24 hour operations; reducing the number of road blocks to a bare minimum for security operations and requiring that trucks only be weighed at the point of departure.

Landlocked countries have for a while been complaining that Kenya was not doing enough to address the non-tariff barriers along the corridor, which had pushed the prices of commodities in those countries up by 50 per cent.
