Gang member deported to Rwanda
By JON WILLING

A 27-year-old street gangster with ties to the city's Ledbury-Banff Crips has been deported to Africa.

The Canada Border Services Agency escorted Remy Maliragora to Rwanda on Sunday.

In Canada, Maliragora has racked up convictions for offences related to stolen property, weapons, threats and assaults.

According to court records, Maliragora had convictions dating back to 2003 for offences that include possession of stolen property, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of break-in instruments, theft and robbery.

He lived in Vanier during part of his stay in Ottawa.

SECOND DEPORTATION

Maliragora is the second member of the Ledbury-Banff Crips deported this year.

The public safety ministry says border agents also returned Sharmarke Ali, 23, to Ethiopia in January.

"Our government is committed to enforcing removal orders against those convicted of serious crimes. On this, we have zero tolerance," Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day said in a statement.
