  • Winner of this year's Vodacom Miss Tanzania will be unveiled today, amid 27 girls' parade at the Leaders' Club, Kinondoni in Dar es Salaam. She will walk away with a brand new car worth 42m/- and a ticket to represent the country in the lucrative Miss World beauty contest later this year.

The event winner will also grab 8.8m/- cash from the event sponsors, Vodacom Tanzania, who injected a staggering 600m/- package to cover the running costs. The first runner-up will get 6m/-, while the second runner-up would receive 3.8m/-, third and fourth winners will take home 2.7m/- and 2.2m/- respectively.

The ultimate objective of the pageants is to get an outstanding beauty queen who will represent the country at the Miss World pageant. For the last two years the country has performed poorly at the Miss World as Wema Sepetu and Richa Adhia failed to make their presence felt at the global stage.

The most glorious moment for Tanzania was three years ago, when Nancy Sumari emerged Miss World Africa. Chairman of the Miss Tanzania Organising Committee Hashim Lundenga said today that preparations for the event to take place are complete. "The girls are in great shape and can't wait to stage one of the breathtaking shows the country has ever witnessed," he said.

The contestants have been undergoing rigorous training at the Paradise Resort in Bagamoyo, where they had set up a camp under the reigning Miss Tanzania, Richa Adhia. The contestants include Nelly Kamwelu, Annethe John, Sylvia Mashuda, Rona Swai, Florence Josephat, Lilian Shayo, Angela Lubala, Amata Crispin, Jopan Faith John and Blanca Mkude.

Others are Regina Julius, Gloria Masangwa, Irene Salala, Linda Kaaya, Tusekile Mwakabinga, Johari Abubakar, Mariam Hajibu, Pendo Laizer, Beatrice Dengenesa, Tahya Badru, Dorisa Godfrey, Devotha Desdery, Elizabeth Gupta, Nadya Ahmed and Cecilia George.
