Rwanda: Senior Police Officers Complete Training Course

Twelve senior police officers completed a one month management course on Thursday. The course was conducted by police officers from the British Police Staff College Bramshill.
Speaking at the certificate awarding ceremony held at the National Police headquarters, the acting Police Commissioner General, Mary Gahonzire, said that the course was aimed at equipping senior police officers with decision making and strategy skills. She added that the police officers are expected to pass on these skills to others.

"Policing is a challenging service and takes place in an unpredictable environment, and this requires more skills," Gahonzire said. She also expressed gratitude to the British government for facilitating the course.
"Security is a pre-requisite for development and by assisting us in training police officers the British government is assisting in Rwanda's development".
The British ambassador to Rwanda, Nicholas Cannon, said that his government's support for the Rwanda police was aimed at supporting Rwanda's development process.
"We are willing to contribute to Rwanda's development through supporting the police," said Cannon.
The British envoy also expressed confidence that this training would help in improving the quality of leadership in the police force.

The one month course was part of an ongoing skills development programme between the British Police and the Rwanda police.
