Kenya, US sign Sh25 billion grant

  • The US has given Kenya a Sh25.6 billion grant to assist in development projects.
  • The grant agreement will fund various projects in five key sectors of the economy.

The American Government has given Kenya a Sh25.6 billion grant to assist in development projects.

The US Ambassador Michael Ranneberger and acting Finance minister John Michuki signed the deal under the Development Assistance Grant Agreements (DAGAS) at the minister's Treasury office.

The grant agreement will fund various projects in five key sectors of the economy: Health, Environment and Natural Resources, Agriculture, Business and micro-enterprises, Education and Governance.

The latest agreement brings to Sh49 billion the total amount Kenya has received from the US in form of grants this year.

Said Ambassador Ranneberger: The Agreements signed today will support the Coalition Government development agenda…..in order to foster broad-based economic growth."

Mr Michuki thanked the US for its support saying it had made a significant contribution to the country socio-economic development.
