Museveni calls self 'a revolutionary' in Uganda

Associated Press - September 26, 2008 1:14 PM ET

FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) - Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has been in power for 22 years but still describes himself as "a revolutionary."

After speaking with officers at the Army's Command and General Staff College, Museveni revealed little Friday about his political future.

Museveni began his political career in the early 1970s fighting Idi Amin.

Museveni's term ends in 2011 and many think he is grooming his son, who graduated from Fort Leavenworth earlier this year. However, in a wide-ranging interview, he said it is up to the ruling party and Uganda's people to decide who is ready.

He said, "I'm grooming all of them to continue the torch forward."
