The good folks at Huffington Post are reporting how the McCain campaign is seeking to clarify a remark reported from a Sarah Palin fundraiser in North Carolina yesterday in which the Alaska Governor declared that she loved to visit the "pro-America" areas of the country -- implying, implicitly, that there were some parts of the United States she viewed as not pro America.
AAPP: I wonder if Sarah Palin is saying that areas of the country that are not supporting John McCain are not pro-American? If that is the case, all America is not pro-American. You see Barack Obama has support all across America. if she is talking about core cities not supporting John McCain, it seems to be an attack on blacks, latinos, whites, women, gays, white liberals, and other urban dwellers. This is no more than a bottom of the barrel culture war. Arianna Huffington is on point in her Sunday Roundup on these issues.
I don't know if Sarah Palin has been watching current events, over 100,000 pro-Americans were in St. Louis to support Barack Obama. Whites, Blacks, latinos, Native Americans, asians, gays, lesbians, jewish and arab Americans all coming together to support America.
The Washington Post's provided a detailed version of the pool report.
"We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. We believe" -- here the audience interrupted Palin with applause and cheers -- "We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation. This is where we find the kindness and the goodness and the courage of everyday Americans. Those who are running our factories and teaching our kids and growing our food and are fighting our wars for us. Those who are protecting us in uniform. Those who are protecting the virtues of freedom."
