Sept. 18 (Bloomberg) -- South African President Thabo Mbeki may form a new political party amid efforts by the ruling African National Congress to oust him, Business Day reported, without saying where it got the information.
Mbeki's backers have conducted polls and commissioned research to determine whether the new party is viable, the Johannesburg-based newspaper said.
The ANC's top leadership will discuss whether Mbeki should be removed from office at a meeting over the next few days, following a High Court ruling that he may have tried to influence prosecutors to charge his rival Jacob Zuma with corruption. Zuma ousted Mbeki as ANC president at a party congress in December.
